Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important official commented the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
