Government Official States Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Staff Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense minister has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the potential threats posed by Chinese-made vehicles, while personnel have been told to refrain from discussing secret matters in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for MoD Personnel

In a recently aired appearance on a radio station, a defence minister addressed claims that MoD officials have been instructed not to discuss secret material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

He explained that the ministry is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that security is a concern in all contemporary cars.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any kind of car, due to the increasing threats of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to only have those confidential conversations in secure locations. That’s a wise and sensible thing for anyone worried about security.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, Pollard replied: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

The announcement comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable China to switch off public transport and cause chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been shining lasers at RAF aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

This broader security environment underscores the importance of strong measures and caution in all aspects of official activities, including vehicle use to communication habits.
